About the University

Since its foundation in 2008, HMKW University of Applied Sciences for Media, Communication, and Business has been one of the leading universities for media-oriented study programs in Germany under private sponsorship.  With immediate effect, the university will operate under the new name “Media University of Applied Sciences” (MU for short). The renaming is part of a comprehensive innovation and development program with which the university is continuing its successful growth of recent years and at the same time supporting its ambitions in the international education market.

Expansion of the range of courses and international orientation

In the future, the Media University of Applied Sciences will raise its profile even further as the first port of call for Bachelor's and Master's degree courses relating to the creation, analysis, and commercial exploitation of media. This should not only increase the attractiveness of the degree courses on the German market but also for international students. The content spectrum of the five departments “Journalism and Communication”, “Design”, “Business”, “Psychology” and “Humanities” will remain the same, but will be supplemented by new, modern forms of study such as one-year Master's programs, dual study programs or distance learning formats. This should increase the university's appeal, particularly in the important international markets, and help to keep Germany attractive as a location for science and education.

In addition, the Media University of Applied Sciences will strengthen its cooperation with business practice partners and thus promote the intensive transfer of knowledge between the university and the media industries. Last but not least, current technological developments such as machine learning and artificial intelligence will be addressed and taught in a new Master's degree program.

As part of this strategy of renewing and expanding its capacities, the university is investing in the expansion of its human resources, new IT systems, and the modernization of its didactic resources.
