Course Description
This innovative course of studies provides students with the basic specialist knowledge to navigate the Anglophone cultural area, taking interdisciplinary and intercultural issues into account, and enabling them to successfully participate in the ever more intensive economic and cultural relations between nations.
Your individual profile – the combination subject.
Right at the beginning of your studies, when you enroll in the bachelor's degree program in "English and American Studies", you choose a combination subject worth 49 credit points. This is fully integrated into the course of study. Combination subjects promote the networking of basic scientific knowledge and practical knowledge or are aimed at broadening specialist scientific skills.
For the bachelor’s degree program “English and American Studies” you can choose from the following combination subjects:
- African Verbal and Visual Arts (Languages, Literature, Media and Art),
- Applied Computer Science – Multimedia,
- Arabic and Islamic Language and Cultural Studies,
- German as a second language,
- German Studies,
- Story,
- Intercultural German Studies (German as a Foreign Language),
- law Sciences,
- Social and cultural anthropology,
- Theatre didactics,
- Theatre Studies,
- Economic and social geography, or
- Economics.

Application Documents
- Preliminary examination documentation (VPD) uni-assist for the University of Bayreuth: Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland must first have their documents evaluated by uni-assist in the special preliminary examination documentation (VPD) procedure for this degree program, for a fee.
Due to the processing time by uni-assist, the preliminary examination documentation (VPD) for the application to the University of Bayreuth should be requested at least 6-8 weeks before the application deadline at the University of Bayreuth! - Identity card/passport.
- Secondary school certificate with subject and grade overview: Original language + sworn translation in German or English.
- German language certificate (see language requirements).
- Tabular CV: Please download and fill out the template provided on the course application info page.
- Applicants who have chosen “African Verbal and Visual Arts” as a combined subject must also submit: an English language certificate at level B2 no later than at the time of enrolmеnt.
