Five Reasons to choose this Bachelor's Program

Course Description
The Bachelor’s program in Leather and Textile Engineering at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences uniquely combines materials science, engineering, and sustainability. Students explore the full value chain of both industries — from raw materials and processing to product design and quality management. Supported by state-of-the-art laboratories and close industry ties, this program prepares graduates to develop innovative, eco-friendly materials and technologies for global applications in fashion, mobility, and technical textiles.
This is a new program with its first intake planned for the winter semester 2026/27. Therefore, some of the information currently available on the course website is still subject to change. If you have any questions about the program, you are welcome to contact Prof. Luisa Medina directly at [email protected].

The program is ideal for applicants fascinated by innovative materials, sustainability, and applied engineering. It suits those who enjoy combining scientific understanding with creative problem-solving and who aspire to work in internationally connected industries. Technical curiosity, teamwork, and an interest in sustainable design are key assets.
Special Program Features
Bilingual Progression – Building Expertise Across Two Languages
Students begin with German-taught fundamentals and progress to English specialization modules. Dedicated English courses in the first year prepare them for the transition and ensure a smooth progression through the program.
Flexible Specialization – Shape Your Path in Textile or Leather Engineering
Students select their preferred focus area — Textile Engineering or Leather and Shoe Engineering — at the start of their studies and can change this choice until the fourth semester. This flexibility allows them to refine their academic profile in line with personal strengths and career ambitions.
Unique in Germany – The Only Combined Degree in Textile and Leather Engineering
This program is the only one in Germany uniting textile and leather technology under one academic roof. Students gain interdisciplinary expertise across both sectors — a distinctive qualification highly valued by employers worldwide.
210 ECTS Option – Direct Pathway to the RSPCP Master’s Program
By completing 210 ECTS through additional elective modules, students become eligible to apply for the consecutive Master’s program Refinement and Sustainability of Polymer and Composite Products (RSPCP) at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. → More Info

Testimonials
The mix of practice-oriented work and scientific teaching is a lot of fun. The opportunity to work on a research project during my studies is also a really good opportunity that I was happy to take.
As a graduate of Textile Engineering at the Hochschule Kaiserslautern, I benefited from the very good training and personal support provided by the lecturers. Today I work in the exciting field of textile chemistry at RUDOLF GROUP and deal with the functionalization of textiles. In particular, I have benefited from the dual study program offered by the University and RUDOLF GROUP in cooperation.
After graduating as a textile engineer, I completed a master's degree in textile engineering at the University of Borås in Sweden, where I am now also doing my doctorate. The very good practical training in Pirmasens had enormous advantages for me – also in international comparison with other students.
