Course Description
The B.Sc. in Sustainable Agriculture is aimed at prospective international students who hold a university entrance qualification for German Universities. It is taught in English and began in winter semester 2010-2011 in Kleve. It has since achieved international recognition, particularly among students.
Special Program Features
Study at the international and modern Kleve Campus
The Kleve Campus of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences hosts over 7200 students from more than 120 countries. It is formed by several acres of new buildings merged with nature and the surrounding Spoy Canal.
A hands-on program
During this bachelor’s program, students learn how to examine the effect of the agricultural industry on the ecological, economic and social aspects of sustainability from a global perspective not only in the classroom, but especially by completing fieldwork and practical experiences.
Choose from a variety of interesting elective modules
Flexible modes of study and a wide range of electives and additional qualification opportunities allow students to specialize in specific areas and expand their growing array of qualifications. Students can choose different elective modules among diverse focus fields ranging from animal sciences and aquaponics to plant and soil sciences, analysis of sustainability and food sciences, economics and social sciences.

Application Documents
In German: Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB). This proves that you have reached a sufficient level of schooling to attend a higher education institution in Germany. If you did not earn your HZB in Germany, then you must apply through uni-assist so that the equivalency of your international HZB can be established. Uni-assist establishes equivalency based on official guidelines from the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Kultusministerkonferenz), the German Rectors Conference (Hochschulrectorenkonferenz), and the Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesеn).
All students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences must complete an eight-week internship before the end of the third semester. It is often easier for international applicants – particularly those who speak little to no German – to complete this mandatory requirement in their home country before applying. For more details and additional requirements, please see the examination regulations of your desired study program.
Once you have completed this requirement, you can request an official recognition form from your faculty. Important: If your internship is not recognized by the end of the third semester, you will automatically be deregistered as a studеnt.
Testimonials
What did you enjoy most about your bachelor’s program?
"I enjoyed crop physiology and nutrition, international markets, trade and agriculture policy, traceability of agriculture products, and my internship abroad a lot. Those courses (and our professors) helped me understand how agriculture plays an important role in monitoring nature, adding value to human nutrition and the global market, and maintaining the economic resilience and social harmony of a community."
