Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program

Course Description
What happens beneath the surface when human activity reshapes the planet? The M.Sc. Biogeosciences of the Anthropocene at Friedrich Schiller University Jena equips you to find out. This English-taught program centers on Earth's critical zone — the layer of soil, groundwater, and rock sustaining clean water, fertile land, and biodiversity. Combining geosciences, biology, chemistry, and data science, it immerses you in fieldwork, lab training, and computational modeling from day one. Flexible electives let you build a personal profile in hydrogeology, geomicrobiology, environmental geochemistry, or climate research. Graduate ready to tackle the most urgent environmental challenges of our time.

This program suits graduates with a Bachelor's in geosciences, biology, geoecology, biogeosciences, or environmental sciences — plus related fields like environmental physics or chemistry. Ideal candidates think across disciplinary lines, enjoy both fieldwork and data analysis, and want to understand how surface and subsurface ecosystems interact under human influence. Curiosity-driven problem solvers will thrive here.
