Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program

Course Description
Want to make sense of one of Europe's most contested and dynamic regions? The M.A. Central and East European Studies at European University Viadrina pairs deep regional expertise with a cultural-studies lens, drawing on history, literature, social sciences, and Jewish and German studies. Studying on a cross-border German-Polish campus, you engage with Central and Eastern Europe from inside its cultural fabric — multilingually, transnationally, and in close contact with active researchers. Graduates leave equipped to interpret the region's entangled past and to shape its European future across academia, policy, media, and culture, with optional double degrees extending the horizon further.

This program suits graduates with a first university degree of at least 180 ECTS that includes substantial coursework relating to Central and Eastern Europe — for example in Slavic studies, history, German studies, Jewish studies, or cultural studies with a regional focus. You bring English at B2 level, proficiency in Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, or another regional language at B1, and genuine intellectual curiosity about the region's transnational dynamics.
