Qualification Requirements

Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to the program, such as psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, cognitive science, or IT.

Required ECTS credit: 180.

Evidence of sufficient basic knowledge in the field of "Experimental psychological training" and/or "Mathematics" (9 CP each; equivalent to the bridge modules BM1 and BM2). This evidence is typically provided through successful participation in a total of 9 CP of coursework. Applicants who cannot demonstrate sufficient skills in "Experimental psychological training" or "Mathematics" are admitted and obligated to complete either the BM1 or BM2 module during their master’s studies. If applicants lack knowledge of "Experimental psychological training" and "Mathematics", then they will not be admitted.

Additional information:
The English language knowledge can also be proven by a certificate of a German general higher education entrance qualification with documentation of English as a foreign language during the qualifying phase, or a certificate of a higher education entrance qualification with the confirmation of the B2 level, or a certificate of a degree from an English-language degree program at an accredited institution of higher education, or a certificate of a general higher education entrance qualification from an English-taught course of education and acquired in a country with English as the official language.

Application Documents

  1. Completed and signed admissions application. The admission application is the document that is compiled as a result of your online application on uni-assist.
  2. Simple copy (i.e. uncertified) of the German- or English-language graduation certificate from your first degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Diplom, Magister).
    If your graduation or preliminary certificate is in a language other than German or English, then you must submit a German or English translation certified by a sworn translator, along with a simple copy of this document.
    If documentation of your first professional qualification is not yet available by the admission application deadline, you can still apply for admission. You must have (with a transcript of records, uncertified will suffice):
    1. At least 140 CP in a bachelor's degree with a total requirement of 180 CP.
    2. At least 170 CP in a bachelor's degree with a total requirement of 210 CP.
    3. At least 200 CP in a bachelor's degree with a total requirement of 240 CP.
  3. Diploma Supplement: a simple copy (i.e. uncertified) of the diploma supplement or other relevant documentation from your university regarding all coursework completed for your first professional degree.  You may also submit the module manual or the study and examination regulations of your degree program to evidence your qualification. If this coursework was completed at an institution of higher education other than the University of Potsdam, then this proof must include information regarding the credit points, form, content, and the examination modalities.
  4. If applicable, a placement notification for the first semester.
  5. English language knowledge (see language requirements).
  6. Proof of sufficient basic knowledge, demonstrated by 9 credit points each in "Experimental psychological training" and/or "Mathematics". This evidence is typically provided through successful participation in at least 9 credit points of coursework (see previous degree field).
  7. A statement of purpose, written in English.
  8. Evidence of international studies and/or research stays.
  9. Evidence of professional internships or experience, if applicable.
  10. Current or last certificate of university enrollment, or a copy of an exmatriculation certificate from a German institution of higher education, if you were enrolled in a program after acquiring the degree on which your application for the master's program is based.
  11. Documentation of citizenship (e.g., a copy of your passport).
  12. A written application for immediate admission in the context of the hardship quota (hardship application) and documentation required to substantiate such an application, if applicable.
  13. Documentation of an earlier offer of admission or proof of period of service, if applicable.
  14. Documentation of qualification for the Brandenburg quota (Profilquote), if applicable.
  15. A written application to upgrade your waiting period, as well as documentation required to substantiate such an application, if applicable.
  16. A written application to improve your average grade, as well as documentation required to substantiate such an application, if applicable.
  17. Documentation regarding ongoing or completed asylum proceedings, if applicable.
