Previous Degree

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in art history, archaeology, art education, philosophy, ethnology, history, or cultural studies. Fine art graduates may also apply.

Minimum standard period of study: 6 semestеrs.

Does the university recognize "other equivalent language certificates"? no

Additional information:
English language proficiency can also be proven with an Abitur certificate, upper secondary school certificate, or other evidence of at least five years of school education (from Sekundarstufe 1) in English (the average grade of the last two school years must be at least German grade 4 (sufficient) or 5 points). Other proof recognized as equivalent by the Examination Board can also be provided as proof. Knowledge in another modern language at level B1 needs to be proven at the time of application.

Application Documents


Applications must include:

  1. A single-page statement of purpose (SoP).
  2. Résumé (CV).
  3. Copies of relevant certificates (certificate of qualification for university matriculation, BA-certificate or transcript of records or equivalent certificates).

Language certificates: knowledge of two modern languages is mandatory, one being English or French.

International students do need a DSH-1 certificate.
