Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree in economics or a course with an economics subject of at least 50%. In the natural sciences courses in mathematics, physics, computer science, and statistics, a minor in the economics of 35 ECTS points must be proven.

Minimum standard period of study: 6 semesters.

If the bachelor's degree has not yet been obtained by the end of the application period, a provisional certificate from the university of the achievements made up to that point is sufficient. If admission to the master’s degree in economics is granted, this is subject to the proviso that proof of the bachelor’s degree and related requirements are provided at the time of enrollment (conditional admission). The conditional admission expires if a proof is not provided at the time of enrollment.

The average or final grade of the first university degree on which the application is based must be at least 2.5. Applicants with an average grade below 2.5 will not be admitted. Waiting semester, internships, prices, etc. are not taken into account in admission. Only the average or final grade of the first university degree on which the application is based is decisive.

Additional information:
English language proficiency can also be proven by a language certificate for English from the Central Language Laboratory of Heidelberg University with at least a good result. The evidence should not be older than four years. German language skills are not required. A university entrance qualification acquired in an English-speaking country, a course of study entirely in English, or the writing of the thesis in English can be credited as an equivalent.

For applicants with German citizenship and international applicants with a German Bachelor's degree:

The fully completed and signed application for access to the master’s degree in economics must include the following evidence:

  1. Certificate of the bachelor's degree or a current transcript of records showing the average grade.
  2. A curriculum vitae in tabular form.
  3. Proof of sufficient English language skills (see language requirements).
  4. Applicants with German citizenship who apply with an international degree must also enclose an officially certified copy of their university entrance qualification.

Letter of motivation, evidence of internships, letters of recommendation, etc. do not have to be attached. GMAT/GRE are also not required. Please refrain from submitting the relevant evidence/documents.

For international applicants with an international bachelor's degree:

The following documents must be attached to the fully completed and signed application for access  to the master’s degree in economics:

  1. University entrance qualification: An officially certified copy of the university entrance qualification with an officially certified translation in German or English.
  2. University transcripts and certificates: Officially certified copies of all university and university certificates obtained including a list of all graded and passed performance certificates per semester (transcript of records) from the original with the corresponding officially certified translation in German or English. In addition, all individual certificates of achievement (transcript of records/diploma supplement) that have been acquired by the time of application in Germany or abroad must be accompanied by an officially certified copy of the original and an officially certified translation (in German or English) be submitted on time. German certificates can be submitted without being authenticated.
    If the degree has not yet been completed by the end of the application period, a provisional certificate from the university of the achievements made up to that point (transcript of records) is sufficient with the assurance that the corresponding degree is expected to be completed by the beginning of the semester for which the application is being made, is to be submitted in an officially certified form and the associated officially certified translation in English or German. The university's final diploma, as well as the corresponding list of individual grades (transcript of records/diploma supplement) and the overall final grade, must be submitted at the latest when you personally enroll (for the enrollment deadline see letter of admission).
    If the final diploma has not yet been finalized, enrollment is possible if the responsible examination office of the domestic or foreign university you are visiting issues a certificate of successful completion of the course including the overall average grade achieved. The certificate must be submitted as an officially certified copy of the original with the associated, officially certified translation in German or English.
  3. Proof of sufficient English language skills (see language requirements).
  4. Motivation letter: A letter of motivation in which the motivation for a master's degree in economics is justified.
  5. Tabular CV.
