Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program
Course Description
The Master's degree program in Forestry System Transformation (FST) is a cutting-edge and interdisciplinary initiative designed for graduates in forestry, applied forestry, or environmental sciences. Launched in the winter semester of 2018/19 and recurring annually, this four-semester full-time program emphasizes a socio-economic approach to integrated forest ecosystem resource management.
In the context of the bioeconomy and "green growth," the FST program aims to revolutionize forest ecosystem cultivation by introducing innovative political and economic instruments. It seeks to sustainably support the broad spectrum of forest ecosystem goods and services, focusing on often overlooked aspects like protection functions, recreation, and health benefits.
Students delve into analyzing ecosystem functions from a socio-economic and innovative perspective, preparing them for decision-making at various levels, from company strategies to international policy agendas. The curriculum covers topics such as new forest management approaches, economic strategies for cultivating forest goods and services, governance and political management, and innovations in forestry and environmental governance.
Graduates emerge equipped with the skills to address evolving challenges in forest resource use, initiating change processes and critically examining market, state, and network-based solution strategies. The program's transdisciplinary nature fosters a holistic understanding of forestry, positioning graduates as agents of change in the dynamic landscape of sustainable resource management.
This program is designed for graduates with backgrounds in agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences, nature conservation, and resource economics. It's also suitable for those with related degrees in social-ecological systems research. Applicants from diverse fields with an interest in sustainable natural resource management are encouraged to apply.
