The Centre for Digital Cultures About What Digital Cultures Are
Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program

Course Description
The Master's program in Media and Digital Studies focuses on understanding the profound impact of digital cultures on various aspects of life. Over the past half-century, digital media have transformed communication, thinking, and social interaction. This program equips students with critical skills in humanities and social sciences to analyze and engage with digital cultures.
Key topics include the historical, philosophical, aesthetic, and sociological dimensions of digital cultures, addressing questions like the technological and social upheavals they bring, how they reshape perceptions of the past and future, and the new methods needed for their study. The program encourages interdisciplinary learning, combining traditional cultural studies concepts with critical reflection on how digital cultures also transform academic disciplines.
The program is rooted in German-language cultural studies (Kulturwissenschaften) and German media theory, and taught primarily in German, with some electives in English.

The Media and Digital Studies program is designed for students with a strong interest in the critical exploration of digital cultures. Ideal candidates are those who want to delve into the history, philosophy, aesthetics, and social impact of digital media, and who are prepared to engage with interdisciplinary approaches from cultural studies.
