Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program

Course Description
How do TikTok algorithms shape public discourse, and what role does AI play in our everyday conversations? The M.A. Language and Media Studies at European University Viadrina equips you with the academic depth and analytical tools to decode today's media-saturated world. Taught entirely in English at the German-Polish border, this research-driven program weaves linguistics, film studies, and media studies into a uniquely pan-European perspective on contemporary society. You graduate ready to critically examine audiovisual culture, digital communication, and societal discourse — and with the practical skills to actively shape them in your future career.

This program is designed for graduates holding a first university degree of 180 ECTS that includes at least 30 ECTS in linguistics, media studies, communication studies, journalism, or related humanities. You should bring B2-level English, intellectual curiosity about how media and language shape society, and a strong interest in working analytically across digital, audiovisual, and linguistic phenomena.
Special Program Features
Interdisciplinary Electives Across Humanities
Broaden your studies with electives such as Gender and Queer Studies, Cultural History, or Philosophy and Arts in Times of Crises, plus earn an additional thematic certificate.
Study right at Europe's living border
Frankfurt (Oder) sits directly on the German-Polish border, where Europe's integration story unfolds around you each day and shapes the discussions inside the seminar room.
Short distances to active researchers
Teaching happens in small learning communities, so you stay in direct, regular contact with the researchers shaping the field — questions get answered, ideas get discussed routinely.
