Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in social sciences or other professionally appropriate study.

Minimum standard period of study: 6 semesters.
Required ECTS credits: 180.

If you have not yet completed your bachelor's studies at the application deadline (July 15 respectively), you can still apply to the master's program. However, you need to have completed at least 80% of the necessary credits of your bachelor's program at the time of your application. In this case, please make sure your application includes:

  1. an official and current transcript of records showing all your completed courses, including grades,
  2. the total number of credits in your bachelor's program,
  3. the percentage of Credits/courses you have completed at the time of your application,
  4. your current, preliminary average grade. This grade will be used for evaluating your application during the selection process, no matter if your final grade later differs from the preliminary gradе.

Additional information:
The test result submitted must not be older than three years at the time your master's studies begin. In individual cases, other than the certificates mentioned above can be accepted as proof of your study competence in English, such as having English as your mother tongue, having a nationality from a country where the official language is English (e.g. Nigeria), the completion of an English-language undergraduate degree program from a country that is not genuinely Anglophone (e.g. Syria), with "medium of instruction: English" stated on the Transcript of Record (ToR) or in the Diploma Supplement, the completion of an English-language undergraduate degree program from a country that is genuinely Anglophone (USA, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand), if your bachelor program was instructed entirely in English (you do not need to submit further proof of your language proficiency; please ensure that the application you submit provides sufficient proof from your home university that your bachelor was lectured completely in the English language), if you have studied at a German university (a certificate or other proof from your university clearly stating your English proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), or applicants from Hochschule Osnabrück (your successful attendance of the course English 4, shown on your transcript of records, is sufficient). For the German language skills, if you do not hold a certificate at the time the application period ends, i.e. July 15, but are currently taking a German language course, you can still apply. In such a case, please make sure to submit proof that you are currently enrolled in a relevant course and please indicate when the certificate will be available.

Application Documents


For your online application, please upload all documents in one single PDF file (not a zip file). Please save this file as follows: “last name_first name”. The file size should not exceed 50 MB.

  1. Application form: Please make sure all required fields are filled in the online application form of the online application portal.
  2. Cover letter: Only a maximum of one page. Please include your address, email address, cell phone number, etc. in your CV.
  3. Photograph: Recent photo (not older than 3 months). Digitalized in good quality.
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV): In English or German language. In tabular form. Please list the following contents in your CV: Education, work experience, internship, work and study experience abroad, volunteering experience, and scholarships.
  5. English language certificate (see language requirements), unless native speaker. Please note: the test result submitted mustn't be older than three years at the time your master's studies begin.
  6. German language certificate (see language requirements), unless native speaker. Please note: the test result submitted mustn't be older than three years at the time your master's studies begin.
  7. Proof of your higher education: University entry qualification (high school graduation certificate). Final university graduation certificate(s) of your bachelor studies, including bachelor certificate and transcript of records. If you have not yet completed your bachelor studies, you must submit an official and current transcript of records showing all your completed courses, including grades, the total number of credits in your bachelor program, the percentage of credits/courses you have completed at the time of your application, and your current, preliminary average grade. For foreign degrees: Documents must be translated into English or German language and show the minimum and maximum possible score in your institution's grading system, as well as your average score.
  8. Additional documents: Please submit the relevant supporting documents! If no proof is provided, internships or periods abroad, for example, will not be included in the points scheme for the preliminary ranking: Voluntary work/involvement in nonprofit organizations, relevant professional experience, vocational education and training, internships, and performance-related and subject-related scholarships. For foreign degrees: Documents must be translated into English or German languagе.
