- Tuition: 18,750 € per year. Students who submit their application by November 30th are eligible for the early bird offer and receive a tuition reduction of 2,000 € (can be combined with scholarships). It is encouraged for all students who want to be considered for a tuition waiver or scholarship to apply by the priority deadline of Fеbruarу 1st.
Course Description
International security, European governance, or the future of human rights - our rapidly transforming world calls for solutions that positively shape the trajectory of our societies.
The Master of International Affairs (MIA) equips you with tools of international policymaking and the practical skills to devise sound policy proposals in a global multilevel system. Learning how to navigate this complex landscape of diverse actors and disciplines is at the heart of the programme. You can choose one of three areas of concentration:
- International Security,
- European Governance,
- Human Rights & Global Governance.
If you want to prepare yourself for a career that requires a profound understanding of today’s global policy challenges - be it in government, international organizations, business, or civil society, the Hertie School and its Centres of Competence are where you need to be.
Requirements
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). While many applicants have completed their degree in subjects related to public policy and international affairs (i.e. political science, economics, sociology, or law), the master's program is open to all academic backgrounds.
Minimum standard period of study: 6 semesters.
Required ECTS credits: 180.
If you do not yet have your undergraduate degree at the time of application, please indicate when you will receive it on the online application form. You must complete all of your undergraduate academic coursework and exams before September 1st to start your studies at the Hertie Schoοl.
Work experience is not required; however, relevant work experience (internships, project management, regular job positions, etc.) will be an asset to your applicatiοn.
GRE results are not required; however, it is encouraged for applicants to submit their results if they are taking the test anyway, as it helps to evaluate the candidates’ profilеs.

The following certificates are recognized as proof of your language proficiency.
