Qualification Requirements


Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in metallurgy, or materials engineering, or other closely related disciplines.

It is necessary for the applicant to demonstrate the skills required for a successful study in the master's degree course in the following areas:

Basic part:

  1. At least 30 CP from the area of ​​mathematics, physics, Inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry.
  2. At least 10 CP from mechanics, machine components, electrical engineering, crystallography.

However, the sum of the areas mentioned above must be at least 60 CP.

Engineer-specific part:

  1. A total of 4 CP from the area of ​​the basics of engineering.

Additional information:
English language proficiency can also be proven by the placement test of the RWTH Language Center with the level OK (Oberkurs) 12. Although all courses are taught in English the students shall nevertheless learn German during their time in Germany. Therefore, a basic German language course is offered before the start of the program and during the first year.
