Qualification Requirements


Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in one of the life sciences, including Biology, Neurosciences, Medicine, Psychology, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemistry, Pharmacy, or related fields.

Solid basic knowledge in the following fields is required: general cell biology, basics of chemistry and biochemistry, physics and math.

Applications are welcome even if the required degree has not been awarded by the time of application as long as this will be conferred before courses start in October. You have to send proof that you will finish your studies before the start of the master's program.

The university degree must provide proof of the following qualifications:

  1. Knowledge from the undergraduate degree in the areas of molecular biology, cell biology, or physiology.
  2. Laboratory experience in at least one of the subjects mentioned in the previous degreе.

Additional information:
An English proficiency certificate is mandatory for application. English as a first language or equivalent (e.g. a proven longer stay in an English-speaking country). The test must have been completed not more than two years before the course starts. English as the medium of instruction is not sufficient. Without one of the aforementioned official proofs of your English level, your application will be declared 'incomplete' and will not be considered for evaluation. By the given deadline, you need to provide a copy of your English certificate or proof of registration to the exam if you take the exam after the MSc Neurosciences application deadline. In the second case, please note that you will have to transmit the language certificate by May 31st at the latest. Working knowledge of German is necessary for daily private activities, German courses are strongly recommended.
