All important info for international students in Germany (2021/2022)
For anyone familiar with the German language and life in Germany, it does not come as a surprise that English-speaking cultures, especially the USA, have had deep impacts on German culture: This is visible in the common use of English words that have long become part of the German language, the American pop-cultural media perceived, and the importance which transatlantic relations have for Germany and Europe. The high number of Master programs in English and American Studies offered at German universities reflects this right relationship.
American Studies programs usually cover aspects of literature, culture, language, and society in the United States, only few programs also pay attention to Latin American countries. English Studies focus on the UK, but also on anglophone communities around the globe as well as English linguistics. This subject field often integrates postcolonial perspectives and analyzes social categories such as race, gender, and class.
