Study Peace and Conflict Studies in Germany: 15 Universities with 14 English Degree Programs
All important info for international students in Germany (2023/2024)
Peace and Conflict Studies aims to identify and analyze violent and nonviolent behaviours and the mechanisms surrounding conflict in an attempt to understand them and apply this knowledge to avoid, mitigate, contain and/or shorten future conflict. One popular sub-area, peace studies (irenology), is an interdisciplanry approach which aims to prevent, de-escalate, and solve conflicts by peaceful means. This discipline stands in contrast to military studies, the goal of which is to emerge from conflict victorious through (more efficient) violent means. Disciplines involved often include political science, philosophy, economics, sociology, international relations, anthropology, religious and gender studies, psychology, and more. If you are interested in this area, a degree from a German university, in a country for over seventy years far more devoted to peace and peacekeeping than most nations, is a logical next step.
