Study Material Science at Art Academy of Stuttgart (2026/27)

The Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden KĂŒnste Stuttgart, founded in 1761, is one of Germany’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious art academies, with around 900 students enrolled in 20 programmes spanning architecture, design, fine arts, art education, and art conservation. Located on the Weißenhof campus in central Stuttgart, the Academy offers outstanding infrastructure with over 30 specialised workshops for metal, wood, bronze casting, painting, printing, media, photography, and CAD, which form the core of its interdisciplinary teaching approach. Small classes and close interaction with professors foster both artistic creativity and practical, technical, and professional skills, while exhibitions, lectures, and symposia ensure the Academy’s active role in shaping contemporary aesthetic discourse. As one of the few German art academies with the right to confer doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, it also offers the postgraduate MeisterschĂŒler/in course through the Weißenhof Programme of Fine Arts to promote artistic excellence.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
