Founded in 1775 as the Clausthal Mining School, Clausthal University of Technology (TU Clausthal) is a specialized public technical university located in the Upper Harz Mountains of Lower Saxony with approx. 3,000 students. This small institution focuses on engineering and natural sciences, and has a longstanding tradition of excellence in mining, petroleum engineering, materials science, and metallurgy. Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)
For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
