About the University

Mission, vision and goals
Our dynamic working world progressively requires employers and employees to undertake scientific and vocational further education programmes. Our professional life is often interrupted by conceivable industry changes, adaptation to innovative developments, the international expansion of the working space and the phases of personal training. This type of active life is increasingly establishing itself as more crisis-proof than the traditional biographical developments (schooling, studies, professional life, and retirement, plus the national limitations).

The Dresden International University (DIU), founded in 2003, is actively dealing with this development and supports modern lifestyles through scientific education. One of our missions is the preparation and sustainable development of or students for the global labor market as well as maintaining the innovative capacity of our society regardless of its age pattern.

In order to fulfil this mission we offer career-creating, career-interrupting and career-accompanying courses of study in the fields of academic and further training. Our classic further education programmes require a graduated, science-based university degree. The interdisciplinary fields of activity are identified through a target-oriented analysis of the working world. Important examples are health care, production optimization, mobility management of people and goods, connection between engineering and management competencies, creation of subject-oriented legal knowledge, energy production, innovation and change strategies or communicative and cultural social projects.

The DIU thus sees itself as an academic institution that develops its programmes from the professional world. It combines professional proximity and direct implementation of the knowledge acquired there with a corresponding scientific education. With regard to the recognition of new professional fields of activity and their didactic implementation in a course of study, it follows a so-called matching process with companies. Furthermore it is a legally independent part of the TU Dresden, which, as a university of excellence, makes the development of science the basic motive for the establishment of new courses.

As a "Professional University", the DIU accordingly designs courses for the following target groups:
- Graduates in leading positions from Germany
- Graduates from abroad
- Employees or trainees with university entrance qualification.

In addition to the scientific planning of the courses of study, the DIU also makes sure that they run smoothly. This is accomplished through a system of quality assurance measures. It ranges from guaranteed consistency both in the scientific management and in the team of teachers from various universities, public institutions and companies to the perfect "work-learn-life balance" and the evaluation of all courses on the basis of modules. A computer-supported evaluation system enables the university management to react quickly.

The DIU's close connection to the TU Dresden, from which it emerged and whose educational profile it supplements and expands, is an essential factor for achieving its goals. The common goal of the cooperation between the two institutions is to contribute to the creation of a regional educational area with international appeal.
