The Hochschule für bildende Künste Essen (HBK Essen), also known as the Academy of Fine Arts Essen, is a public art academy founded in 1911 that combines a long tradition in fine arts with modern approaches to design and media. With around 500 students, it offers an intimate learning environment on a campus that blends historic and modern architecture in the cultural hub of Essen, in Germany’s Ruhr region.
