Study Performing Arts at University of Church Music of the Protestant Church of Westphalia (2026/27)

The Hochschule fĂŒr Kirchenmusik der Evangelischen Kirche von Westfalen, also known as the University of Church Music of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, is a renowned institution specialising in church music education. Founded in 1948, it is the only Protestant church music college in north-west Germany and the second largest of the six Protestant music colleges in the country.

Located in Herford and Witten, it offers an intimate learning environment with a focus on classical and popular church music. The University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Protestant Church Music, as well as artistic and concert examinations. Approximately 15 per cent of all Protestant church music students in Germany are trained at the Hochschule fĂŒr Kirchenmusik of the Evangelische Kirche von Westfalen.

In a significant development, the leadership of the Evangelical Church in Westphalia has decided to construct a new building for the Academy of Church Music on the campus of the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences in Bochum.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
