RPTU University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (Rheinland-PfĂ€lzische Technische UniversitĂ€t Kaiserslautern-Landau) is one of Germany's youngest public universities, formed on January 1, 2023, through the merger of the University of Kaiserslautern with the Landau campus of the former University of Koblenz-Landau, and now runs two campuses in different parts of Rhineland-Palatinate. Despite the "Technische" in its name, RPTU is broader than a typical TU: programs span engineering, computer science, natural and environmental sciences, psychology, educational and social sciences, and teacher training for all school types. Its main draw is the research environment in Kaiserslautern, where the university sits alongside the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS), and two Fraunhofer Institutes (IESE and ITWM) â an unusual concentration of computer science research for a city of this size. Both campuses lie within the Palatinate ForestâNorth Vosges biosphere reserve, with Landau in Germany's wine-growing southwest, and international students have access to exchange programs and support services for visas, housing, and integration.
