Course Description
The bachelor's degree program teaches the geoscientific disciplines of geology-paleontology, mineralogy, and environmental geochemistry, and helps students to obtain a first professional qualification.
Students first receive an overview of the basics of natural science, the system of the earth, rocks and minerals, and the development of life. In middle semesters, students deepen their knowledge of earth history, geodynamics, magmatism and metamorphism, sediments, environmental geochemistry, and isotope methods. Classical analysis methods such as light microscopy are taught, as are modern electron beam methods, mass spectrometry, and environmental analysis. In the higher semesters, students can choose a specialization from the elective modules geology, mineralogy, or environmental geochemistry, followed by the completion of their bachelor's thesis.
Important professional qualifications are imparted through intensive and practice-oriented laboratory and field courses, as well as through colloquia with experienced external lecturers, a professional internship, project work, and scientific work.
