Course Description
The minor in Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt) encompasses three basic modules that equip students with skills in listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. Vietnamese is the national language of Vietnam and is spoken as a native language by about 85 million people, making it the most widely spoken language of Mainland Southeast Asia. Linguistically, Vietnamese is a tonal and monosyllabic language belonging to the Mon Khmer or Austroasiatic languages.
The minor in Vietnamese introduces students to the grammar and basic skills necessary for everyday communication. Later on, students are prepared to read specialized and academic texts to understand intellectual life in Vietnam.
