Chemnitz: List of all State Exam programs (2026/27)

Chemnitz offers international students a distinctive educational experience at its Technical University (TU Chemnitz), known for excellence in engineering, computer science, and automotive research—fields where strong connections to regional industries like Volkswagen and Saxony's growing technology sector translate into real internship and employment opportunities. This evolving east German city, formerly Karl-Marx-Stadt during the GDR era, provides quality education in a setting that uniquely blends industrial heritage with forward-looking innovation, and its remarkable architectural diversity tells that story visually: preserved Art Nouveau neighbourhoods, striking Soviet-era monuments including the famous Karl Marx Monument, and award-winning contemporary buildings stand side by side. Living costs rank among the lowest of any German university city, allowing students to live comfortably on modest budgets while enjoying urban amenities, a growing café and cultural scene, and easy access to the beautiful Ore Mountains for hiking and skiing. The authentic atmosphere away from tourist crowds gives international students genuine insights into eastern Germany's ongoing transformation—a perspective increasingly valuable as the region attracts new investment and talent.
