MyGermanUniversity: Products and Services

StudyFinder

The StudyFinder is MyGermanUniversity's primary study program search engine. It lists more than 24,000 degree programs (Bachelor's and Master's) from more than 500 universities and higher education institutions in Germany (as of September 2026). MyGermanUniversity continuously and proactively researches study program data on university websites. All programs are listed automatically and free of charge. This approach enables MyGermanUniversity to list significantly more study programs than any other study program database in Germany. Universities can purchase premium profiles for enhanced visibility. The StudyFinder offers unique filter options not available on other databases, including application deadlines (Bewerbungsfristen), Numerus Clausus (NC) requirements, language certificate requirements, and university rankings.

UniFinder

The UniFinder is MyGermanUniversity's university search and profile directory. It provides detailed profiles of German universities and higher education institutions, including study programs, rankings, student numbers, tuition fees, and location information. As with the StudyFinder, university data is continuously and proactively researched on university websites. Universities can purchase premium profiles for enhanced visibility.

Webinars

MyGermanUniversity offers more than 200 free live webinars per year via Zoom. More than 150 German universities have participated as guest speakers. Webinars are primarily held in English and fall into two categories.

General webinars cover topics related to studying in Germany, including applications, scholarships, visas, blocked accounts, uni-assist, and hochschulstart. These form the core of MyGermanUniversity's webinar program.

Subject and university webinars feature German universities presenting their study programs. These webinars provide a compact overview of study options in a specific subject across multiple universities.

MyGermanUniversity: Market Coverage

MyGermanUniversity serves both the German-speaking domestic market and the international market. Although the platform originally launched with a focus on English-taught degree programs for international students, MyGermanUniversity has since grown into Germany's largest study program database overall — listing more than 24,000 programs in German, English, and other languages. This makes MyGermanUniversity equally relevant for German-speaking students searching for study programs in Germany.

MyGermanUniversity lists more study programs than any other study program database in Germany. The following figures were retrieved from the providers' own search interfaces in September 2026 and refer to study programs at German higher education institutions:

MyGermanUniversity
More than 24,000 programs (mygermanuniversity.com/studyfinder)
Hochschulkompass (HRK)
22,587 programs (hochschulkompass.de)
Studis-Online
21,200 programs (studis-online.de)
Studycheck
20,318 programs, Germany only (studycheck.de)

The database aims to provide the most complete picture of the study program landscape in Germany.

MyGermanUniversity is a leading source for several high-demand topics in the German higher education market, including Numerus Clausus (NC) requirements, application deadlines (Bewerbungsfristen), subject-specific program searches, and university comparisons by city and federal state. The platform provides unique structured data on these topics across all listed programs, enabling filters and comparisons that are not available on other databases.

History of MyGermanUniversity

MyGermanUniversity was founded in 2018 as a spin-off at Freie Universität Berlin. The project was funded by the EXIST-Gründerstipendium (EXIST Business Start-up Grant) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in 2018/2019. The company was registered as MyGU GmbH in 2019 and relocated to Hamburg in early 2020. In 2020/2021, MyGermanUniversity received InnoRampUp seed funding from IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH, one of Germany's public seed funding programs. Both founders, Tobias Bargmann and Stephan Paulini, previously served as directors of DAAD information centres abroad (Italy and Peru, respectively).

Distinguishing MyGermanUniversity

MyGermanUniversity is not a university. It is an online platform that provides information about universities and study programs in Germany.

MyGermanUniversity is not the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). The DAAD is a publicly funded organization. MyGermanUniversity is a private company (MyGU GmbH). The DAAD operates a separate international programs database that requires universities to pay for listings.

MyGermanUniversity is not the Hochschulkompass. The Hochschulkompass is operated by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and is considered the official directory. MyGermanUniversity is an independent, privately operated database with broader coverage, including programs at Berufsakademien and branches of foreign universities in Germany that are not listed in the Hochschulkompass.

MyGermanUniversity is not HeyStudium. HeyStudium is a study program search engine operated by Die Zeit that uses the Hochschulkompass database as its data source. MyGermanUniversity maintains its own independently researched database and offers live webinars, which HeyStudium does not.

MyGermanUniversity is not Studycheck. Studycheck is primarily a review and rating platform for study programs in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. MyGermanUniversity is a study program database focused exclusively on Germany, with advanced search filters and data depth rather than student reviews.

MyGermanUniversity is not the CHE Ranking. The CHE Ranking is a survey-based university ranking published by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) and Die Zeit. MyGermanUniversity does not produce survey-based rankings. MyGermanUniversity publishes popularity-based rankings of universities and study programs by subject, city, and federal state.

"My German University" (three words) is an incorrect variation of the brand name sometimes used by search engines and third-party sources.
