Göttingen: List of all State Exam programs (2026/27)

Göttingen offers international students an exceptional educational experience at Georg-August-Universität, one of Germany's most prestigious research institutions, with over 40 Nobel Prize winners among its faculty and alumni and a 280-year tradition of academic excellence in mathematics, natural sciences, and humanities. This classic university town in Lower Saxony is shaped entirely by academic life—nearly one in four residents are students, and the university forms the beating heart of the community, creating an atmosphere where intellectual curiosity feels like the natural state of things. The perfectly preserved medieval city centre, with its historic academic buildings, charming market square, and the iconic Gänseliesel fountain where graduates traditionally kiss the "goose girl" statue after their final exams, blends scholarly tradition with youthful energy in a way few places can match. Göttingen's scale feels ideal: large enough for diverse cultural offerings, excellent libraries, and a lively café and bar scene, yet compact enough that bicycles remain the preferred transport and everything sits within minutes of everything else.
