Holzminden is a county seat in the Weserbergland region of Lower Saxony with a population of about 20,000. It is located on the Weser River, near the border with North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. The city has traditionally been strongly influenced by the fragrance and aroma industry—it is home to global corporations such as Symrise, which has earned Holzminden the nickname “World Capital of Fragrances.” Despite its modest size, the town has its own college life thanks to the HAWK campus, which adds vibrancy to the otherwise predominantly rural region.
