Leer: Master Programs with NC

Leer offers international students a distinctive educational experience at Hochschule Emden/Leer, specialising in maritime studies, nautical sciences, and business management—fields where the campus location directly on a working harbour connects classroom theory to real-world shipping operations in ways few universities can match. This charming coastal town in East Frisia sits at the heart of one of northern Germany's most important shipping regions, and students benefit from direct access to maritime companies, logistics firms, and naval architecture practices that create valuable internships and career pathways in the global shipping industry. The intimate campus atmosphere fosters close relationships with professors and hands-on experience with navigation systems, ship management, and port operations that prepare graduates for internationally mobile careers. Beyond academics, Leer itself offers genuine appeal: a picturesque historic centre with Dutch-influenced architecture, cosy tea culture unique to the Frisian coast, and authentic immersion in a seafaring community where maritime traditions remain part of daily life rather than museum exhibits.

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
