Kursbeschreibung
The binational master's program in Biochemistry and Biophysics, offered jointly by the University of Strasbourg and the University of Freiburg, offers in-depth and interdisciplinary training in biochemistry, physical chemistry, and the methods of biochemistry and biophysics. It is aimed at students who are interested in an international and interdisciplinary education that meets the high standards of research and industry in the field of life sciences. The master's program is perfectly embedded in the Upper Rhine region, which has one of the strongest concentrations of biotechnology companies and university research institutions in this field in all of Europe. After completing the master's program, students receive a diploma from both universities.
The masterâs program offers two study focuses:
- Biophysical Chemistry: The first year of the master's degree takes place at the University of Strasbourg. The training includes courses in physical chemistry and a laboratory internship or an internship in industry. The second year takes place at the University of Freiburg, where students take biochemistry courses and complete two laboratory internships, followed by the writing of the master's thesis.
- Biochemistry/Biophysics: The first year of the master's degree takes place at the University of Freiburg. The training includes courses in biophysics and biochemistry as well as a laboratory internship. The second year takes place at the University of Strasbourg, where students take courses in biophysics and physical chemistry, followed by the writing of the master's thesis.
To strengthen their intercultural skills, students attend an intercultural seminar in the first year of their master's program and take part in several conferences at both universities.
The choice of study focus enables students to live and study at the partner university for two semesters and to specialize according to their interests and career choices. The interdisciplinary nature of the course opens up equal opportunities to do a doctorate or start a career in the industry in both studies focuses.
