Kursbeschreibung
The LL.M. program of the Faculty of Law at Kiel University is a postgraduate program for students who already have obtained a foreign law degree. It serves to strengthen international academic exchange and offers foreign students the opportunity to gain a comprehensive insight into the German legal system and acquire in-depth knowledge of European and international law. The program offers successful graduates a springboard for professional perspectives in Germany as well.
LL.M. candidates enjoy great freedom in choosing the contents and focus of their individual postgraduate program from the extensive range of courses on German, international, and European law. LL.M. students are individually mentored during their studies by a professor from the Faculty of Law.
The LL.M. program comprises two semesters, totaling at least 16 semester hours.
After successful completion of the postgraduate program, the degree of Magistra/Magister Legum (LL.M.) (Basics of German Law) is awarded.
Upon application, the degree of
- Magistra/Magister Legis Oeconomicae (LL.M.Oec.) (Business Law), or
- Magistra/Magister Legis Internationalis (LL.M.Int.) (International Law), or
- Magistra/Magister Philosophicae (LL.M.Phil.) (Foundations of Law)
shall be awarded if courses totaling at least 8 semester hours have been taken in the relevant area of law and also the LL.M. thesis has been written on a topic from this area of law.
*Most of the lectures in the LL.M. program are offered in German language. However, if there is a sufficient number of English-language courses and the mentoring professor agrees, the LL.M. program may also be completed entirely in English. Enough English-language courses can currently be guaranteed for the LL.M.Int. (International Law) program only.
