Kursbeschreibung
The content of the consecutive master's degree program in Religious Studies includes in-depth analytical work on a wide variety of religions in history and the present. In addition to the so-called major religious traditions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc.), this also includes regional historical developments such as Zen Buddhism in Europe or ancient Iranian religious history and current contemporary forms of religion such as evangelical Christianity or religion(s) in digital media. Students delve deeper into theories and methods from the broad spectrum of cultural and social sciences and apply them independently to religious historical and contemporary case studies and scenarios. This empirical-cultural studies of religion is particularly characterized by its interdisciplinarity. In addition to research-oriented know-how, students also familiarize themselves with practical career decisions, for example through internships or a career-oriented specialization module. The empirical-cultural studies orientation and interdisciplinary focus of the degree program offer students the space to develop and apply analytical skills to current socio-political issues. These include, for example, the topics of religion and violence, religion in the context of migration and integration, the consequences of digitalization for religions, and religion in the context of gender and diversity.
This master's degree program can be combined with a minor subject.
