Requirements
Qualification Requirements
The application requirements for the study program in “Data Scienсе” are:
Eligibility Criteria:
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Data Science from TU Dortmund University.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree from a German university (or a comparable degree from a foreign university) in a field related to computer science, statistics, or mathematics.
Requirements Defining a Related Degree:
- At least 44 credit points in core areas of mathematics, computer science, and statistics, with at least 8 credit points in mathematics and computer science and at least 4 credit points in statistics. Here, credit points refer to the European ECTS system; other credit systems must be converted accordingly.
- Core areas of the three fields are defined as follows: computer science: algorithms, data structures, programming, and software engineering. Mathematics: analysis, algebra, equations, discrete mathematics, numeric. Statistics: descriptive statistics, probability theory, inference, stochastics.
- Additional credits in databases and data modeling.
Conditional Admission:
- In general, admissions to the program are unconditional. Depending on the content of your Bachelor’s degree, you might be required to complete specific additional modules after enrοllmеnt.
Self-Assessment Test
- In order to self-check the level of your prior knowledge, the study program has a Self-Assessment test uploaded to its website. It is mandatory to do this test. It is designed to help you to decide whether your prior knowledge is sufficient to compete in the Master’s program. It is only mandatory to do the test, you do not have to upload your solutions, there is even a sample solution available online.
Self-Disclosure
- In order for you to self-check whether you fulfill the application criteria, you can fill out a Self-Disclosure document. However, the content of the completed document will not be evaluated during the application process; it is just meant for you as a self-check.
Statistical Task
- As an additional proof of your prior knowledge, you have to hand in a report for a given statistical task. The tasks change from semester to semester and is usually a small up-to-date data set that you have to analyze using basic statistical methods. You should put some serious effort into solving the task and writing the report since the admission decision is highly based on the quality of your reрοrt.
The final grade of the Bachelor's degree previously reviewed for application is at least "good" (2.7) in the German systеm.
