Five Reasons to choose this Master's Program

Course Description
Where electrons meet microstructures, tomorrow's technologies take shape. The Master of Engineering in Electrical and Microsystems Engineering at OTH Regensburg unites two disciplines in one interdisciplinary degree, jointly run by the Faculty of Applied Natural and Cultural Sciences and the Faculty of Electrical and Information Technology. You tailor your own study profile, from semiconductor technology and micromachining to photonics, while modern labs keep your learning hands-on. Leadership and management training prepares you for responsible roles, and if you wish, an optional double degree with a partner university in Malaysia adds a second Master's to your CV.

This program is ideal if you hold a strong Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, microsystems technology, mechatronics, sensor technology, physics or chemistry and want to deepen your expertise across both fields. You bring at least 18 weeks of practical experience, enjoy solving complex technical problems and aim for a specialist or leadership role in industry, research or academia.
Special Program Features
Dual Track with a Partner Company
Study with intensive in-company training: in the four-semester dual track, your courses and your work at a partner company are closely linked in content, organization and contract. → More Info

State-of-the-Art Laboratories
Learn where the action is: modern laboratories at OTH Regensburg give you hands-on access to electrical and microsystems engineering equipment and host your research project. → More Info
Double Degree Option
The Master's in Electrical and Microsystems Engineering gives you the opportunity to earn a double degree: in addition to the M.Eng. from OTH Regensburg, you receive a second Master's degree from one of the partner universities in Malaysia. This usually involves spending one theory semester at the partner university; participation is optional. You can apply for a DAAD scholarship to fund your stay.

Requirements
Qualification Requirements
The application requirements for the study program in "Electrical and Microsystems Enginееring" are:
with at least six theory semesters in a natural science (physics, chemistry) or technical field (electrical engineering, mechatronics, renewable energy technology and energy efficiency, intelligent systems engineering, microsystems technology, environmental and industrial sensor technology), or an equivalent German or international degree. Normally 210 ECTS, at least 180 ECTS. The examination board decides on relevance and equivalence.
Fewer than 210 ECTS: Missing credits are made up through additional examinations from OTH Regensburg's relevant Bachelor's programs, set by the examination board at the start of studies and to be completed by the end of the second semester (one retake each). Four-year degrees from abroad are normally considered equivalent to 210 ECΤS.
at least 2.5 (according to the German grading scale)
Alternatively: proof that the final grade ranks among the top 51% of graduates of that program at the respective universitу.
An internship semester completed as part of the first degree, or comparable continuous practical work of at least 18 weeks in a field relevant to the degreе.
Established through a written, unsupervised online test covering mathematics, basics of electronics, physics and chemistry, and electronic components (function, manufacturing, applications). Scoring: points derived from the Bachelor's grade (P = 150 − 60 × grade; grades worse than 2.5 score 0) plus up to 100 points from the test. A total of at least 65 points confirms aptitude. Applicants who fail may retake the test once in a later application round.
Exemption on request: Bachelor's grade of 1.0–1.2 ("with distinction") or proof of ranking among the top 10% of the cohort; also applicants who have already passed the test and received admission since the summer semestеr 2025.
at least B2 (CΕFR)

Testimonials
The program taught me an analytical approach and strengthened my perseverance when tackling complex tasks.
Put more effort into the programming topics – your future self will thank you, and it will make your working life a whole lot easier.
I am studying for a Master's degree in Electrical and Microsystems Engineering at OTH Regensburg in cooperation with Infineon. Before this Master's, I had already studied Microsystems Engineering at OTH.
The current political and social relevance of the technologies covered encouraged me to deepen my knowledge with the Master's degree. I particularly like the practical nature of the course and the good contact with lecturers and international students. The possibility of a dual study program with a strong partner like Infineon was another reason for me to choose this degree program. You get a special insight into the company and are well looked after from all sides.
I’m studying the Master Electrical and Microsystems Engineering at the OTH Regensburg. I decided to study this course after completing the Bachelor Microsystems Engineering here at the OTH. As I have always been enthusiastic about the natural sciences, this was another reason for choosing this course.
