Qualification Requirements


Previous Degree

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in “International Management” or “International Business” or in a major field of studies in economic sciences with a strong international reference.

Minimum standard period of study: 7 semesters.
Required ECTS credits: 210.

For graduates whose Bachelor degree stems from a six-semester program (180 CP): Provided that you satisfy all of the other entrance requirements and that the master program is not yet filled to capacity you might be enrolled under the condition precedent that you acquire 30 CP (ECTS) within the first year of your master studies at HAW Hamburg. The master student counselor (Studienfachberater_in) will decide which additional courses have to be taken.

Work Experience

Experience abroad is mandatory such as a semester abroad, an internship or professional activity to the extent of at least 20 weeks.

Additional Qualification

Analytical qualification: In order to qualify, applicants need to have successfully completed courses with a total of at least 60 CP (ECTS) related to modules that treat economic questions with a strong international main focus. Additionally, applicants have to achieve at least 50% ECTS with general economic topics (not sector-specific, not regional and not functional oriented).

Additional information:
Tests also accepted are TOEFL IBT and IELTS. Other ways to prove English proficiency are a school leaving certificate with qualifying grade in English; a German advanced entry qualification for universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife): very good grade in English (minimum of 14 points); a German entry qualification for universities (Allgemeine Hochschulreife): good grade in English (minimum of 11 points); other means to meet the language requirements: a school leaving certificate of a school in an English speaking country, two years of successful university studies in an English speaking country, or two years of post-graduate professional experience in an English speaking country.

If you completed your school education outside of Germany, you must send officially certified copies of your certificates to be reviewed by uni-assist BEFORE you can apply online to the HAW Hamburg. You will get a certificate - VorprĂŒfungsdokumentation (VPD) - from uni-assist that you must include with your application to the HAW Hamburg. Please apply early, as the VPD process can take 4-6 weeks.
