Qualification Requirements
This program is designed as a consecutive study course for the corresponding bachelor's degree program. For checking your knowledge, you should use the course guide of the bachelor's degree program.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in materials science or in a related scientific field.
This is a list of some suitable bachelor's degree programs in descending order of points in the admission process evaluation. Every bachelor's degree with a background in natural science or techniques is accepted:

Minimum standard period of study: 3 years.
Required ECTS credits: 180.
If you are missing certain modules, you may be required to complete up to 30 additional credits during your master's degree program. If you lack more than 30 credits, you will be denied admission.
No minimum GPA is required but it is taken into consideration during the admission process.

Application Documents
Please check this list to ensure that you have all the necessary documents at hand. All documents must be translated (English or German). If you are accepted into the master's degree program you will have to bring the respective translated and certified documents when registering at Kiel University.
Applications missing any documents by the deadline will not be considered.
List of application documents:
- Application form: All prospective applicants/students (except students from Kiel University) must use the online application portal. After submitting your application you will have to print out, sign and send your automatically generated confirmation report via email to [email protected] within the given deadline. This is the only document you will have to send this way.
- Verification of proficiency in English (see language requirements).
- Certificate of a completed bachelor's degree course or similar.
- University transcript of records including a list of subjects, grades, and an overview of your university's grading system (applications cannot be considered without that annex).
- Manual of your B.Sc. course: this is a list of modules in your program, showing content, exam form, and credits (PDF or a link to your university's module catalog; in English or German language; it must be able to use a search function within the document).
- Applications from China, India, and Vietnam will only be accepted if accompanied by the Certificate of the Academic Examination Board. The APS is a joint institution of the German Embassy and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It exists in China, Vietnam, and India. The APS checks the authenticity of educational biographies and the corresponding educational certificates, and issues certificates if the result is positive. For Applicants from China, Vietnam, and India, the APS certificate is a requirement for applying to a German university.
