Shaping the Future of Light – Study Photonics!
Course Description
The Master’s program in Photonics (M.Eng.) at Wildau University of Applied Sciences offers a comprehensive education in one of the most dynamic fields of modern science. Students explore the generation, control, and detection of light particles—photons—while gaining insight into their applications in communication technology, quantum computing, sensor systems, and biotechnology. Combining solid theoretical foundations with laboratory experience, the program equips graduates with advanced skills in laser, optical, and quantum technologies, preparing them for innovation-driven careers in research and industry.

The program is designed for graduates with a background in physics, engineering, or related fields who wish to specialize in photonics and optical technologies. It particularly attracts those with a strong interest in scientific problem-solving, innovation, and applied research in fields like quantum technology, optoelectronics, or laser systems.
Special Program Features
Double Degree with Tor Vergata University of Rome
Taught in English, the Master’s in Photonics is truly international in scope. Students may pursue a double degree in cooperation with Tor Vergata University of Rome in Italy, gaining cross-cultural academic experience and broadening their international career prospects in research and technology development. → More Info
Strong Research and Industry Links
The program offers extensive laboratory exercises and close collaboration with industry partners. Students gain practical experience through projects in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region’s vibrant photonics ecosystem, connecting academic learning directly with industrial and research applications.
Building Careers at Berlin’s Tech Hub Adlershof
Through partnerships and research projects, students can build professional contacts and shape their career paths early on: The university’s cooperation to the renowned technology park in Adlershof provides students with exceptional networking opportunities. → More Info

Testimonials
In the study of photonics - the teaching of light particles
- you experience applied research and enjoy the good, almost family-like community with students and professors.
Due to the close connection to the technology park in
Adlershof, you can make many contacts with companies
and lay the foundation for your professional future already during your studies.
Studying photonics in Wildau means an applied and
practical education in one of the currently most important
physical research and industrial areas. In addition to the
excellent education, the family environment on the beautiful campus in Wildau, which is connected to the capital,
has convinced me.
In the study programme, all subareas of photonics and the additional elective subjects are addressed in a very comprehensible way. I chose the degree programme because of the forward-looking technical orientation, which in retrospect was a very good decision.
