International English Studies State Exam Programs in Germany (2026/2027)

For anyone familiar with the German language and life in Germany, it does not come as a surprise that English-speaking cultures, especially the USA and British, have had a profound impact on German culture: This is visible in the everyday use of English words that have long become part of the German language, the American pop-cultural media perceived, and the importance which transatlantic relations have for Germany and Europe. The high number of master’s programs in English Studies offered at German universities reflects this right relationship, particularly by focusing on the UK and anglophone communities around the globe as well as English linguistics. This subject field often integrates postcolonial perspectives and analyzes social categories such as race, gender, and class.
