Latin - Teacher Education Academic Secondary Education [Gymnasium]: Top State Exam Programs in Germany (2026/27)

Studying Latin to become a high school teacher means teaching students the language that laid the foundation for European culture, science, and education. As a Latin teacher, you will explore texts with young people that have been read for two millennia – from Caesar's war reports to Cicero's speeches to Ovid's Metamorphoses – and show how ancient thinking in politics, law, philosophy, and art continues to have an impact today. Latin trains analytical thinking, linguistic precision, and the ability to penetrate complex structures like no other subject.
