Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Study Visual Arts at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (2026/27)

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is the legendary institution where modernist design began in 1919 under Walter Gropius. Today, with over 4,000 students studying art, design, architecture, media, and civil engineering, the university continues its radical interdisciplinary tradition. The university's programs uniquely blend creative vision with technical precision — a combination few other universities worldwide attempt. This public university in Thuringia offers 40 degree programs, including rare specializations such as public art, new artistic strategies, media architecture, and European urban studies.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
