Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) is a public university in Brandenburg, just about 30 minutes by train from Berlin. Around 2,300 students from roughly 60 countries study here in a close-knit learning environment with a strong hands-on focus.
As one of the first universities in Germany to do so, HNEE embedded sustainability as a core guiding principle across teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and campus operations more than 15 years ago â helping to drive meaningful societal transformation ever since.
The university offers 22 Bachelor's and Master's programmes in fields such as nature conservation, forest management, organic agriculture and food systems, sustainable business, timber engineering, and sustainable tourism management. Small class sizes, practice-oriented teaching formats, and close partnerships with industry and civil society create ideal conditions for a successful degree and a smooth transition into professional life.
Through more than 130 research projects, HNEE develops solutions to key challenges of the future together with practitioners and partners. International collaborations with over 80 universities and research institutions worldwide, along with a wide range of opportunities to study or work abroad, open up additional perspectives.
Sustainability is also put into practice across campus operations: HNEE has been EMAS-certified since 2009, climate-neutral since 2014, and was awarded the German Sustainability Prize in 2025.
