Founded in 1899 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Friedensau Adventist University (Theological University of Friedensau) has been state-recognized since 1990. This small, private religious university is located in the village of Friedensau (population 500) near Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt and has approximately 200 students.
