Founded in 1974, the Bayerische Fachhochschule für öffentliche Verwaltung (HföD) is a state university of applied sciences that specializes in training civil servants for the higher civil service. Headquartered in Munich, the university has several locations throughout Bavaria, including Dorfen, Fürstenfeldbruck, Herrsching am Ammersee, Hof, Kaufbeuren, Starnberg, Sulzbach-Rosenberg, and Wasserburg am Inn. The HföD offers eleven dual degree programs in six subject areas, including general internal administration, archives and libraries, finance, police, law, and social administration. With over 5,000 students, the university prepares future specialists and managers for work in the public sector through a practical approach.
