Founded in 1607, Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) is a comprehensive university with a longstanding tradition that attracts around 25,000 students. JLU offers the full range of traditional and modern subjects with top-level teaching and research. Subjects include classical natural sciences, law, economics, social and educational sciences, linguistics, cultural studies, and a unique selection of life science subjects, such as human and veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, nutritional sciences, and food chemistry. Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
