The Robert Schumann University of Music Düsseldorf, also known as the Robert Schumann University of Music and Media, is a prestigious public institution founded in 1935 through the merger of three private music schools and named after composer Robert Schumann, who lived in Düsseldorf for several years. Since 1987 it has held independent university status under the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Today, with around 850 students from more than 40 countries, it offers a vibrant, international learning environment at its urban campus in the heart of Düsseldorf, close to cultural landmarks such as the Tonhalle and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. The university provides comprehensive programmes across classical performance, composition, musicology, music education, sacred music, music and media, sound engineering and music theory, combining tradition with contemporary practice.
