Technische UniversitĂ€t Braunschweig is a public university and a member of TU9, the alliance of Germany's nine leading universities of technology. Founded in 1745 as Collegium Carolinum, it is the German university of technology with the longest tradition. Today, 15,051 students (winter semester 2025/26) study at six faculties with 120 institutes – from engineering and natural sciences to business, humanities, and educational sciences. 

The university sits at the heart of one of Europe's most research-intensive regions: in the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence, it explores the frontiers of measurability together with Leibniz University Hannover and the PTB, and it cooperates with over 400 partner institutions in more than 60 countries.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
