Ilmenau: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Ilmenau offers international students a distinctive educational experience at Technische Universität Ilmenau, a respected technical university known for excellence in engineering, computer science, media technology, and economics—fields where strong research orientation and close industry connections in automation, microelectronics, and media production create genuine career pathways in Germany's technology sector. This charming small city in the Thuringian Forest provides high-quality technical education in a setting that balances academic focus with natural beauty: forested mountains rise directly behind the campus, and the intimate scale means everything is accessible within minutes by foot or bicycle, fostering the kind of concentrated study environment that larger cities rarely offer. Nearly 15 percent of students come from abroad, creating a genuinely international community within a close-knit campus atmosphere where relationships with professors develop naturally and collaboration across disciplines and cultures becomes routine. Living costs rank among the lowest of any German university town, allowing students to live comfortably on modest budgets while experiencing authentic Thuringian culture—from local traditions to the region's famous bratwurst and Christmas markets.
