Furtwangen: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Furtwangen offers international students a distinctive educational experience at Hochschule Furtwangen (HFU), one of Germany's leading universities of applied sciences for computer science, digital media, precision engineering, and medical technology—fields rooted in the Black Forest's centuries-old tradition of clockmaking and mechanical innovation that evolved into today's cutting-edge technology sector. This charming small town sits at Germany's highest-elevation university, surrounded by pristine forests, dramatic valleys, and mountain landscapes that create a study environment unlike anywhere else in the country. The intimate campus atmosphere fosters close relationships with professors and a collaborative community where personal attention shapes academic development, while strong connections to regional Mittelstand companies—the innovative, often family-owned enterprises that drive Germany's export economy—create valuable internships and practical projects with technology leaders in medical devices, microsystems, and precision manufacturing. Living costs rank among the lowest of any German university location, allowing students to live comfortably while experiencing authentic Black Forest culture: traditional farmhouses, local cuisine, hiking in summer, and skiing in winter become part of daily life rather than distant tourist attractions.
